Biographical Information

Karen Staudt-Cartabona bred her first litter of Borzoi in 1963 and had the good fortune of being mentored by the legendary Louis Murr of Valley Farm Kennels during her early years in Borzoi, and by Lyle and Phydelma Gillette of Rancho Gabriel fame.

Karen is very active as the BCOA's AKC Delegate, having served from 1977-1984 and 1993-present. Karen has also served as a Regional Vice President and has held many Board positions throughout her 40 year career. She is a co-founder of several all-breed and regional Borzoi clubs, and is particularly interested in educating and mentoring the future generation of Borzoi owners and breeders, conducting presentations and seminars on everything to do with Borzoi.

Karen and her husband Bob live in a picturesque setting on the top of a mountain, overlooking a beautiful lake in NJ, where they enjoy the colorful views of the dawn sky every day, and experience life with the Borzoi, and with the wild animals of the forest. Together they serve as caretakers of this world-renowned Borzoi kennel.

Karen is a talented artist as well, creating beautiful sketches of Borzoi, and softly detailed portraits of Borzoi.
