The Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) was launched today at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology in Barcelona, Spain. The overall purpose of GRACE is to capture data on the complete spectrum of patients experiencing acute coronary syndromes (ACS) including long-term follow-up. GRACE will be the first global, population based, multicenter data collection registry. The GRACE registry is supported by an educational grant from Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. Physicians involved in the GRACE registry will be able to compare individual hospital management practices and outcomes to local, national and international practice patterns. GRACE is an ongoing registry that plans to collect data on patient care in 14 countries, including: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, UK and the USA.
Alere Medical Inc has launched the AlereNet System that combines the connectivity of the Internet with Alere's DayLink Monitor -- technology that makes it possible for caregivers to closely and accurately monitor heart failure patients daily in their homes. The Alere DayLink monitor, in use since 1996, consists of a simple display and communications device that asks patients questions about their symptoms, via audible voice and visual display, together with a precision electronic scale platform. The new AlereNet technology allows clinicians access to this collected patient information via a secure, password-protected Internet connection.
Patient Infosystems, Inc. has introduced a new, Internet based Case Management Support System to assist nurse case managers in triage, decision-making and documentation of actions taken in the management of patients with chronic conditions. Patient Infosystems is targeting Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Integrated Disease Networks (IDNs), Disease Management Companies and other Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) with existing infrastructures that permit them to run and manage their own Case Management operations. The Patient Infosystems' platform includes: nurse triage-demand management services; health risk assessments, general health, disease-specific and patient satisfaction surveys; Internet services for patients and healthcare providers; and disease management programs.
