Product developments in April 2004Accumetrics has introduced its VerifyNow Aspirin test that measures platelet aggregation in a way that specifically tests for the effects of aspirin for aspirin responders or non-responders. Calypte Biomedical Corporation has acquired a non-exclusive license for patented HIV-Type 1 and HIV-Type 2 ("HIV-1/2") peptides from Adaltis, Inc. DiaSys Corporation has introduced its UriPrep tube designed to provide urine sediment volume standardization as recommended by the US National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), without the use of expensive specialized pipettes. The UriPrep tube incorporates an insert which traps 1 mL of fluid in the bottom of the tube. Beckman Coulter's Hybritech subsidiary is collaborating with GTx, Inc. to provide a test used in the evaluation of ACAPODENE for the reduction in the incidence of high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), a premalignant lesion that has the potential to progress to prostate cancer. Information resulting from this collaboration will be evaluated for use by Beckman Coulter to determine its usefulness in research, development and evaluation of assays for prostate disease. IMGENEX has launched its SARS-N ELISA kit to quantitatively measure the presence of SARS nucleocapsid (SARS-N) protein in infected cells or serum. The kit is available for research use only. Immucor Inc. has received FDA clearance to market its Galileo blood transfusion system, a fully automated instrument that runs all the routine blood bank tests including blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatch and antibody identification. Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation is developing a method and device for using saliva to determine cholesterol levels. Prionics AG has received permission from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to market the Prionics BSE tests, Prionics-Check WESTERN, and Prionics-Check LIA. The tests will be distributed by Roche Diagnostics in the United States. SeraCare Life Sciences, Inc. has acquired all of the assets of the BBI Diagnostics and BBI Biotech Research Laboratories divisions of Boston Biomedica, Inc. Trinity Biotech plc has acquired the assets of Adaltis US, Inc for $3.5 million in cash. Adaltis US is the US distribution arm for Adaltis, Inc. Trinity also acquired the immunoassay business of Fitzgerald Industries International, Inc. $16 million.
