Agilent Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company, has introduced its new Cerity family of networked data systems for analytical laboratories. Cerity uses the attributes of current Agilent chemical analysis software products such as graphical user interfaces for instrument control and direct LAN connection to instruments. The system uses the Microsoft Windows NT operating system, database storage, and web-ready reporting for distributing results.
Healtheon/WebMD Corporation has formed a partnership with ARUP Laboratories by which ARUP Laboratories' hospital laboratory clients will be able to use Healtheon/WebMD's Internet portal service product, WebMD Dx, to order laboratory tests and receive results. ARUP Laboratories' customers include more than 600 hospitals worldwide, including university teaching hospitals, multi-hospital groups, group purchasing organizations and military and government facilities. WebMD Dx will be available to ARUP Laboratories' hospital laboratory clients in early 2000. Healtheon/WebMD currently processes lab transactions for more than 25,000 provider sites around the United States.
Cholestech Corporation in collaboration with IBM is creating WellCheck.com, an eBusiness unit, will help consumers build a personal health record for themselves and members of their family to measure and monitor their cardiovascular health in conjunction with physicians and other healthcare providers.
Health Hero Network, Inc. has received FDA clearance for blood glucose meter connectivity with its Health Hero Health Buddy Personal Information Appliance. This marks the first time that the FDA has cleared an appliance to collect and transmit patient biometric data that is gathered by blood glucose meters, and made viewable via the Internet to the patient's healthcare provider. The Health Buddy appliance, part of the Health Hero Internet-based communications platform.
ProxyMed, Inc. has begun beta testing of the transmission of lab results reports through ProxyNet, its healthcare information network. ProxyMed uses existing lab interfaces to send lab results reports directly from labs' information systems, electronically through ProxyNet, for delivery to a variety of products at the physician's site, ranging from printers to Internet solutions.
