Molecular Dynamics, part of Amersham Pharmacia Biotech Inc., has signed an agreement with Spotfire, Inc., whereby Molecular Dynamics will offer Spotfire Pro visual discovery software in conjunction with its pre-commercial Microarray Technology Access Programs (MTAP) and its commercial microarray systems. The combined offering will provide researchers and scientists with a complete system for filtering and analyzing data generated by genetic research, as well as integrating the data from drug discovery databases.

Biolog, Inc., has recently entered the fields of genomics and phenomics. The company has received a patent for Biolog's new Phenotype MicroArray technology that can be used to determine the functions of genes. Biolog's Phenotype MicroArray technology allows simultaneous quantitative measurement of thousands of cellular phenotypes.

A German- and Japanese-led team of researchers, members of the Human Genome Project, has mapped chromosome 21 associated with Down syndrome, epilepsy, Lou Gehrig's disease and Alzheimer's. Chromosome 22 was mapped fall 1999.

Rational Therapeutics, in collaboration with investigators from Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and the University of California at Irvine, report that women with advanced, heavily pre-treated ovarian cancer benefited from laboratory-directed therapy performed with the EVA (Ex-Vivo Apoptotic) assay. The EVA assay matches patients to active drugs in the test-tube and allows physicians to use available drugs more effectively.
