Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced the Agilent ChemStation Plus Security Pack for networked data systems, which helps analytical laboratories comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's ruling on electronic data records and signatures (FDA 21 CFR Part 11). The Security Pack is an add-on software module for Agilent ChemStation Plus for GC, LC, CE, LC-MSD and CE-MSD techniques. It provides users with a plug-and-go solution for data security, data integrity and user-independent audit-trails that fulfills the FDA requirement. Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. has introduced its CSN, (CLINICAL SYSTEMS NETWORK) Internet-based information access system. This program is a web-based application designed to accelerate the release of diagnostic test results to the physician and improve communication among clinical laboratories. Bio-Rad believes it is the first Internet-based information access system of its kind to be introduced to the clinical laboratory. The software creates a secure environment for laboratorians to review patient test data and images, equipment performance, quality control results and usage statistics among numerous sites. It also provides access to online service manuals, user libraries, newsletters, journal articles, links to medically related web sites and Bio-Rad technical support. The program can also serve as an intranet for multiple laboratory locations. The CSN program can also be easily adapted for use by other diagnostic manufacturers and healthcare informatics companies. Elixis Corp's WebCoder CardioVascular allows cardiac surgeons can capture outcomes data as a normal part of their daily workflow from any Internet-connected computer. WebCoder CardioVascular is being jointly marketed with the CardioVascular Group of Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Within WebCoder, key fields are flagged to ensure collection of important data for submission to national and regional databases. As a result of collecting comprehensive patient data as part of the care process, physicians will be able to do online queries of national, regional and local databases to assess risk-adjusted mortality for each patient, prior to surgery." The new WebCoder CardioVascular system is already being used by cardiac surgeons at the University of Washington Medical Center and University of Pennsylvania Health System. Mediware Information Systems, Inc's, Hemocare Division has received FDA clearance to market its LifeTrak blood donor information management system. This is the third member of the LifeTrak family of systems to achieve FDA marketing clearance, the LifeTrak/Laboratory, Distribution, and now Donor systems are designed to allow blood banks to accurately process and manage blood product information, from recruitment and donation to processing, testing, and, finally, distribution of blood products to patients. LifeTrak was developed by Carter BloodCare of Dallas, a community blood bank.
