Aviva Biosciences Corporation is developing an integrated biochip system with built-in sample processing capabilities. Aviva's technology incorporates a variety of physical forces and mechanisms on multiple-force biochips integrated with micro-bead technology.

Digene Corporation is adapting its Hybrid Capture System as a universal detection system for microarrays. Digene has developed a detection protocol for a variety of specimen types that should be easily automated. The company's strategy is to extend its core technology to allow testing of the estimated 100,000 human genes, and the genes of the bacterial and viral genomes that have been identified, using the signal-amplified, antibody-based methods incorporated in Hybrid Capture technology.

Dynacare Inc. has launched Dynagene, its National Genetics Testing Center of Excellence that will provide genetic research, testing, and counseling. Dynagene will operate from two laboratories, one on the west coast in Seattle, WA and one centrally located in Houston, TX. Both laboratories came under the Dynagene umbrella as a result of acquisitions by Dynacare.

Nanogen Inc. and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia are collaborating to accelerate development of clinical diagnostics assays on Nanogen's DNA microchips. Children's Hospital will provide laboratory resources, collaborative expertise and product revenue in exchange for non-exclusive access to Nanogen's electronic DNA microarray technology.
