Scientists at Ciblex Corporation have discovered a protein, fibroblast growth factor 2, that permits a protein to exit cancer cells and stimulate blood vessel and tumor growth. The company expects that blocking protein export may offer a new approach to combat cancer and other diseases.
Researchers at the University of Ulm, Germany have reported that measurement of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), an immune system protein may help doctors judge the severity of injuries in trauma patients. IL-6 is produced by the body in response to injury, burns, and trauma caused by surgery.
