Cerner Corp. is launching IQHealth, an eHealth unit that will provide technology and services to connect healthcare communities. IQHealth will offer a health management environment through an online personal health record that includes physician visits, laboratory tests and pharmaceutical requests, available online to both the individual and his or her physician(s) through a secure, trusted connection. Cerner Corp has also acquired all the remaining outstanding shares of Health Network Ventures, Inc. (HNV). Cerner will refocus HNV's resources to support IQHealth.

CYBeR-CARE, Inc. has received FDA 510k market clearance to sell its Electronic HouseCall (EHC400 & 600) systems, a patented Internet-based technology that remotely monitors individuals in their homes for health care purposes in the US.

Dade Behring Inc., and Premier, Inc., will collaborate on an Internet-based purchasing and information initiative aimed at making Dade Behring laboratory products available to the approximately 1,900 member hospitals of Premier through medibuy.com, Premier's exclusive e-commerce marketplace.

Healtheon/WebMD has been chosen by the US Health Care Financing Administration's (HCFA) to develop the new Medicare Managed Care System (MMCS). The MMCS will process enrollment and payment transactions for more than 7 million Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in 427 Medicare+Choice organizations (MCOs).

The US Federal Communications Commission has set aside a section of the airwaves (television channels 7 to 46) for medical devices such as remote heart, blood pressure and respiration monitors, shielding them from interference from other wireless users.

SALUD.COM, a health community on the Internet for the Spanish-speaking world, announced the launch of SALUD.NET, a health site for physicians and healthcare professionals. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs in New Jersey and the Institute of Neuroinformatics in Zurich have developed an electronic circuit can mimic the activity of the brain and may one day be used to create computers that think more like humans.
