Molecular Biology — March 2001

Biosite Diagnostics Incorporated has developed a prototype for a protein microarray comprising 100 discrete antibody zones. This high throughput microarray utilizes the company's proprietary microcapillary technology and is capable of identifying and quantifying up to 100 proteins in a sample within 15 minutes. Biosite's microarray was produced on the microfluidics protein chip currently used in production of the Triage Cardiac Panel and Triage BNP Test. In January 2001, Biosite announced a technology alliance with Large Scale Biology Corporation with plans to generate the antibody and protein target components required to produce the first generation of commercial protein chips.

DNAPrint genomics, Inc. has entered into a strategic agreement with a group of private physicians in the state of Florida that provides the company with blood specimens, biographical and biomedical base-line and endpoint data useful for the development of novel genomics-based diagnostic products for a disease that afflicts several hundred million women worldwide. The company will use the resources obtained from the agreement to develop products that may enable physicians to match patients with the optimal course of chemotherapeutic treatment based on a patient's genetic make-up.

Dyax Corp. licensed its phage display antibody technology to Zyomyx Inc. to help Zyomyx develop high-density protein biochips using the human antibody library. Under the terms of the agreement, Zyomyx has been granted non-exclusive access to Dyax' proprietary phage display library for the development and worldwide commercialization of protein biochips for research and development activities.
