Agilent Technologies Inc. has launched a human cDNA microarray kit to identify drug targets. The kit, which is the first in a series of ready-to-use products, contains two Incyte Genomics Inc. clone sets and is designed to characterize thousands of genes and identify genes active during disease stages, fetal development and in response to drugs. This is the first in a series of ready-to-use catalogue products to be introduced by Agilent in 2001. Agilent Technologies Inc. and MDS Proteomics, have agreed to develop new protein analysis technologies and products for drug development. AlphaGene, Inc. has discovered a new member of the human carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) subgroup, AG128375 specific for prostate cancer. The company anticipates the antigen may provide more reliable marker for prostate cancer than PSA. Other CEA subgroup members can be measured in both serum and tissue and are used as biomarkers for colon cancer. The CEA proteins are known to be highly expressed in tumor cells and play a role in metastasis in humans. Motorola, Inc., has begun shipping the eSensor DNA detection system. The eSensor DNA detection system, a lab-based solution for rapid DNA analysis, is a product of Motorola's Life Sciences Division, through its Clinical Micro Sensors (CMS) business unit in Pasadena, California. The system is being used to test for hemochromatosis.
