The American Federation for Aging Research has launched a website, www.infoaging.org, which will provide easy access to authoritative and current scientific research on aging and age-related diseases and conditions.

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. has entered into an agreement with HealthStream, Inc. that will allow users of Bio-Rad's Clinical Systems Network Web-based program access to HealthStream's Healthcare Learning Library of continuing medical education courses.

CareSteps is using neural network predictive modeling to help physicians, hospitals, health plans, employers and other organizations more accurately identify people who are at risk for certain health problems so that healthcare providers can proactively intervene. The information used for CareSteps' tools comes from medical and pharmaceutical claims data and demographic information supplied by health plans. CareSteps supplements this data with information collected from health plan members through a secured Web application called CareSteps.com.

Datatrak International has signed a contract with a major pharmaceutical company to develop an outcomes registry data in the area of infectious disease. The registry is aimed at the subsequent analysis of clinical information collected in patients suffering from vancomycin resistant entercoccus (VRE) and methicillin-resistant staphlycoccus aureus (MRSA).

Seven HMOs are planning to collaborate in a real-time transaction system aimed at streamlining medical claims processing and other administrative functions. The new company, called MedUnite, is a private company created to reduce the time and hassle of checking an insured member's eligibility, verifying benefits, submitting claims, determining the status of claims and getting paid promptly. The founding investors include Aetna Inc., Hartford, Connecticut; Anthem Inc., Indianapolis; Cigna Corp., Philadelphia; Health Net Inc., Woodland Hills, California; Oxford Health Plans, Norwalk, Connecticut; PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., Santa Ana, California; and WellPoint Health Networks Inc., Thousand Oaks, California.
