Applied Gene Technologies Inc. signed a manufacturing and marketing agreement with AsiaGen. Under the terms of the agreement, Applied Gene Technologies will receive an up front payment for the development of tuberculosis diagnostics using its Tessera Array Technology. In return, Applied Gene Technologies will grant exclusive rights to marketing and manufacturing the product in China, India and the Pacific Rim. deCODE genetics and Roche Diagnostics have announced that deCODE scientists have mapped the first gene with genome-wide significant linkage to rheumatoid arthritis outside the MHC region. The companies will use the discovery as the basis for further research and development in both diagnostics and therapeutics. Genomics Collaborative, Inc. has been issued a US Patent: No. 6,294,339 titled, "Method of Diagnosing and Treating Increased Risk of Death from Community Acquired Pneumonia Associated with A-Allele of TNFalpha-238 Polymorphism." GCI believes this technology may be useful in the development of a diagnostic screening tool for clinicians to determine predisposition to pneumonia and sepsis, and longer term, may lead to a significant therapeutic target. Promega Corporation and Beckman Coulter, Inc. have introduced a DNA purification system capable of extracting DNA from virtually any type of forensic sample. The system combines Promega's DNA IQ System with Beckman Coulter's Biomek* 2000 laboratory automation workstation. Pyrosequencing AB's Molecular Diagnostics Business Unit and The Cleveland Clinic Foundation have signed a collaborative research agreement to develop methods for the rapid identification of mycobacteria using Pyrosequencing technology. TriPath Imaging subsidiary, TriPath Oncology, Inc. has achieved a key milestone in the collaboration with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) and Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. TriPath Imaging has installed its extended SlideWizard modular platform interactive system to aid in the development and support of the genomics-based marker discovery program at Millennium's research laboratory in Cambridge, MA. Xtrana, Inc. has introduced the Xtra Amp Extraction Kit that will extract RNA from Tissue Culture, whereby RNA is isolated using a single tube without sample transfer or elution.
