The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has received a grant of $1,092,326 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for their research on the electronic medical record and its effect on quality improvement for primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and stroke. MUSC will use the funds to conduct research at 23 practices across the United States that are affiliated with the Practice Partner Research Network (PPRNet), a practice-based research network that uses Physician Micro System's Practice Partner Patient Records electronic medical record for the collection of data.

Kaiser Permanente has licensed the DxCG Risk Adjustment Software to create comprehensive clinical profiles and predict medical resource use at both the individual and group level. The software will be used to develop health-based payment systems, identify opportunities for disease management, and compare practice patterns and outcomes for under age-65 populations.

Medical Analysis Systems Inc. (MAS) and Hematronix Inc. will provide MAS customers with the REAL TIME QC SYSTEM (RTCQ). With RTQC, a clinical laboratory can interface any instrument directly with their Laboratory Information System and, via the Internet, can obtain instant access to multiple and customizable peer group comparisons, either nationally or worldwide, within minutes.
