The University of Calgary, Faculty Of Medicine has launched a telehealth and e-health research and training program. The program will build on resources already in place, and researchers will investigate telehealth technologies for use in teaching, research and clinical care. They also will examine the impact of telehealth technologies on doctor-patient relationships and care, the delivery of health services, health policy and health system design.
Canadian Institute for Health Information has published Health Care in Canada 2002 that features data and analyses on healthcare services usage in Canada. The report is available at www.cihi.ca.
The 2002 Prix Galien Canada Research Awards went to Dr. Anthony Pawson and the team of Drs. Julia Levy and David Dolphin. Dr. Pawson, program head in molecular biology and cancer at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, was honoured for his extensive work in transforming our understanding of cell signalling and intracellular communication. Dr. Levy is professor emeritus in the University of British Columbia department of microbiology and former president and CEO of Quadra Logic Technologies Inc. Dr. Dolphin is professor of chemistry and industrial research professor in photodynamic technologies at UBC, as well as QLT vice-president, technology development. The Prix Galien Canada, is regarded as one of the highest accolades for pharmaceutical research and development.
