Dear Reader, we thank you for your continued support. As is our custom, we are taking a short summer break and will be back in September with our monthly updates. Take care, enjoy the summer. See you in September. Advion BioSciences Inc. has introduced its NanoMate 100 and ESI Chip System, a fully-automated platform for nanoelectrospray mass spectrometry. Scheduled for early-access availability in Q3 2002 and commercial availability in Q4 2002, the system incorporates automated sample handling robotics with Advion's proprietary ESI Chip, an array of 100 microfabricated electrospray nozzles that each ionize a liquid sample and introduce it into a mass spectrometer. Affymetrix, Inc., has launched a new GeneChip Sample Cleanup Module jointly developed with QIAGEN N.V. specifically for GeneChip expression assays. The Module was specifically developed to work with the GeneChip Eukaryotic Target Labeling Assay to provide optimal performance on GeneChip expression arrays and contains a new cRNA spin column. Applied Gene Technologies Inc. has received a US patent for DNA Microarrays with Stem-Loop DNA Hairpin Probes. The patent provides for stem-loop DNA probes, oligonucleotide probes containing 'hairpin' structures, or arrays of these probes immobilized on a solid support. InSite Vision Incorporated has signed an agreement with a leading diagnostics company to develop a commercial assay to detect primary congenital glaucoma (PCG). InSite Vision holds the exclusive worldwide rights to 37 gene mutations that are associated with PCG. The company has already launched the OcuGene glaucoma genetic test that detects mutations in the TIGR gene and has the exclusive worldwide rights to the Optineurin gene and its mutations, which have been linked to primary open-angle glaucoma. Molecular Devices Corporation has launched six new assay kits using its IMAP technology and two new kits in the CatchPoint format. The IMAP kits -- PRAK, MSK1, Src, Fyn, Lck and PP2A Assay Kits -- all incorporate enzymes from Upstate Biotechnology, a leader in signal transduction products. The CatchPoint cGMP Assay Kits are plate-based assays used to measure cGMP, an important cell signaling molecule. The company also recently acquired Universal Imaging Corporation, a provider of systems for automated cellular imaging and screening. Nogdan Immunochemical Products Ltd. has acquired a patent called G.F.G. -- Gel Fibreglass patent that covers affinity chromatography columns with G.F.G membranes. Test already in development are : a universal blood indicator of cell pathology from early pre-cancer to benign, to malignant tumors has been discovered, a 66 Kda belonging to the heat-shock protein (HSP) family, a 51 Kda gene that is a homologue of the p 53 gene. Prolinx, Inc. has signed a non-exclusive distribution agreement for its RapXtract Superparamagnetic Separation Technology with Milian S.A. RapXtract separation technology is based upon proprietary superparamagnetic particles that use mass action to remove dye labeled precursors from nucleic acid labeling reactions.
