Canada Health Infoway announced that it will invest $1.8 million in Edmonton, AB's Capital Health project to create a regional electronic patient registry that will serve as a model for other jurisdictions. A patient registry is an electronic directory of all persons who have received health care services. The Enterprise Master Person Index (EMPI), will allow for the identification and matching of patient information from different sites.
McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, health economist Dr. Bernie O'Brien has been appointed director of the Program for Assessment of Technology in Health (PATH). PATH has been awarded a three-year, $3-million grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to assess the economic benefits of three interventions: PET scanning as a tool for staging certain cancers, drug-eluting stents and endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm.
