Amersham Biosciences has introduced a new CodeLink Human P450 SNP Bioarray. The array includes 110 single nucleotide polymorphisms within nine P450 genes (CYP1A1, 1A2, 1B1, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6, 2E, 3A4, and 3A5). Beckman Coulter, Inc. acquired the technologies of Peoples Genetics, Inc. used for the analysis of large pooled populations of individual patient DNAs. PGI developed proprietary procedures for sample preparation and constant denaturant capillary electrophoresis. These technologies, when applied to up to 100,000 DNA samples, enable rapid identification and validation of low frequency mutations which contribute to common complex diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders among others. CombiMatrix is collaborating with RationalDiagnostics to develop a microarray-based test for the diagnosis of lymphoma. RationalDiagnostics' founders, Drs. Daniel Sabath and Stephen Schmechel of the University of Washington, have identified a subset of genes whose expression pattern can distinguish the various lymphoma types. QIAGEN N.V. has launched QuantiTect Custom Gene Expression Assays, probe and primer sets for quantitative real-time PCR based on Epoch Biosciences' MGB Eclipse technology. The custom assays permit the user to design and order assays to measure the expression of any gene from any organism in minutes, using software developed by Epoch and available on Qiagen's web site. Transgenomic Inc. has launched the SURVEYOR line of bioconsumable kits for use in genetic variation discovery and detection using the company's WAVE System instrument platform and other instrumentation. The key component of SURVEYOR Mutation Detection Kits is an enzyme that cleaves DNA at points where any type of DNA sequence variation exists. The resulting DNA fragments can then be analyzed by the Transgenomic WAVE System, fluorescent capillary electrophoresis or standard gel electrophoresis.
