Paris-based Capsule Technologie opened a branch office in the U.S. in order to provide increased levels of service and support to its North American customer base. Capsule Technologie's DataCaptor is used to collect patient vital sign data. DataCaptor provides an interface between standalone and/or networked medical devices and clinical information systems and Electronic Patient Records. Capsule Technologie is ISO9001 certified and DataCaptor is FDA cleared.
In April, U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy Thompson announced The Decade of Health Information Technology, a program to accelerate the pace of computerization of medical records. Medicare is already taking a lead role in updating its technology. Regulations to implement an e-prescribing system that will replace hand-written prescriptions are expected in 2004, and Medicare also plans to give beneficiaries computerized access to their claims data as part of a pilot project that will be launched in Indiana.
