Affymetrix, Inc. introduced 179 NimbleExpress prokaryotic array designs that include microarray expression products for basic microbiology and infectious disease. These arrays offer a tool to conduct whole-genome expression studies on a wide range of pathogenic organisms, including Bacillus anthracis, Hemophilus influenza, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The NimbleExpress arrays are manufactured by NimbleGen Systems Inc. for Affymetrix using a photolithographic Maskless Array Synthesis (MAS) technology. Berlin-based Chipron GmbH and TIB Molbio have developed a biochip device for bacterial DNA detection. The device provides 8 arrays composed of 96 array spots each on a single slide. Reagents are supplied in a full kit, do not involve fluorescence, and an analysis package is used for the LCD-Chip. The device is available in Europe. Nanogen, Inc. is developing new analyte specific reagents (ASRs) for clinical reference laboratories to develop and validate a single test to detect six of the most common respiratory viruses including influenza A, influenza B, human parainfluenza 1, human parainfluenza 2, human parainfluenza 3 and respiratory syncytial virus A/B. The NanoChip respiratory viral ASRs will be available to high complexity CLIA-certified clinical reference laboratories in the U.S. in 2005. The ASRs incorporate multiplexing technology developed by Prodesse, Inc. TM Bioscience Corp. signed a three year distribution agreement with Israel's Gamidor Diagnostics. Gamidor has exclusive rights in Israel to distribute the company's genetic tests.
