Dear Reader, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyalty and to wish you and your families joy and health in this holiday season and peace to us all in the new year. Shara Rosen Focus Diagnostics released its GenomEx genetics interpretive service that provides personalized interpretation and reporting for complex genetic carrier testing. This service is designed for hospitals and commercial laboratories capable of conducting genetics testing that do not have access to a board-certified clinical molecular geneticist to provide personalized revised risk assessments and clinical consultation. The first GenomEx interpretive service is for cystic fibrosis (CF). Interpretive services for other genetic diseases will be added in the future. GenoID Ltd. launched its Real-Time Human Papillomavirus test to detect all variants of the virus that may cause cervical cancer. The test kit uses real-time PCR to provide test results within three hours. Greiner Bio-One GmbH introduced MycoDtect, a DNA-chip that detects the presence of mycoplasmas in cell cultures and identifies the nine most common contaminating species in four hours. LabCorp entered into an agreement with Arcturus Bioscience, Inc. to license its technology for cancer of unknown primary origin (CUP), a 92 gene PCR-based technology for the classification of 39 tumor types. Terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed. Mobious Genomics Ltd was awarded a broad technology defining US patent (US 6908736) covering real-time polynucleotide sequencing. This patent outlines the use of modified polymerases to achieve direct molecular sensing of DNA base identity for real-time polynucleotide sequencing, without the use of engineered nucleotide triphosphates. NeoMatrix introduced its Halo Breast Pap Test System, a "Pap Test" for the cytological assessment of breast duct fluid, or Nipple Aspirate Fluid to identify a woman's risk of breast cancer. Protedyne Corporation has fully automated Promega's P450-Glo assay kits on its BioCube System SX1400, providing an automated solution for high-throughput screening of cytochrome P450 activity. QIAGEN GmbH and Osmetech Molecular Diagnostics., a division of Osmetech plc entered into a distribution agreement by which Osmetech will incorporate certain preanalytical consumables and technologies from QIAGEN into Osmetech microarray products. Tm Bioscience introduced an upper respiratory viral panel that detects all of the major human respiratory viruses, including H5N1 (Avian Flu) and SARS Corona. The panel uses the company's Tag-It chemistry and Luminex's xMAP multiplexed detection technology.
