Applied Biosystems and Hitachi Ltd extended their existing collaboration agreement that began in 1997. They remain exclusive collaborators in the development and commercialization of CE-based instruments for research, applied market, and diagnostic applications. The current product line includes the Applied Biosystems 3130 and 3730 series DNA analyzers
BD acquired GeneOhm Sciences for $255 million. GeneOhm and partner IDI market molecular diagnostic testing for the rapid detection of bacterial organisms, primarily MRSA. GeneOhm Sciences had 2005 revenues of approximately $5 million.
BD Diagnostics received FDA clearance for the BD Viper System that automates previously manual and semi-automated steps of the BD ProbeTec System.
Cemines was granted CE Mark for its CellCorrect KvA-40 lab kit, a molecular blood test to detect lung cancer. The test can detect altered autoimmunity and associated patterns of disease-related autoantibodies in the bloodstream that are produced by the immune system.
QIAGEN and Eppendorf AG formed an alliance that includes co-development and co-marketing of complementary and optimized products. In addition QIAGEN has acquired Eppendorf's reagent business which includes the Eppendorf 5-Prime nucleic acid sample preparation and PCR reagent product lines and related intellectual property.
